Alocasia portodora is all about glossy green, lush topical foliage. The upward pointing scalloped leaves on thick green stems give it the alternative name of upright elephant ear plant.

Light: Thrives best in well lit, bright conditions, however direct sunlight will scorch the leaves.

Water: Keep the compost moist with warm water. Do not allow the soil to dry out. Little and often is a good approach. Overwatering can cause root rot.

Temperature: Needs to be kept warm, ideally between 18-22°C. Keep away from draughts.

Humidity: Thrives in a moist environment with above average humidity. Ideally suited for kitchens and bathrooms and will appreciate a good misting.

Care Tips: Alocasia have a dormant period where leaves will fade and die so do not be alarmed when this happens. During this period, the plants will require less water, so simply moisten the soil from time to time.

Height and Growth Rate: 90-160cm. Alocasia are fast growing in the right conditions.

Toxicity: These plants are harmful if eaten end and are a skin and eye irritant. Keep out of reach of children and animals.

Origin: Southeast Asia.
