How do we measure our artificial plants?

Height
Our upright artificial plants are assembled in a starter pot. For these faux plants we provide the height of the plant from the bottom of the starter pot to the top of the tallest branch or stem.

Length
The stems of our artificial hanging and trailing plants are typically wrapped onto a spike. For these plants we provide the length of the longest trailing stem including the spike assembly.

How to Display Upright Artificial Plants in Starter Pots

Our upright artificial plants are assembled in a starter pot that holds the faux plant together in a weighted base. To get the right look for your space, you’ll want to display it inside a decorative pot or planter, just follow these simple steps to create the perfect faux plant display.

1. Select your planter: Ensure the diameter of your starter pot will fit through the opening of your decorative pot.

Our size tips show the diameter of the starter pot when you select a size option. As a rule of thumb, we suggest picking a decorative pot with an opening 6 to 10cm bigger than the diameter of the starter pot.

Tip: For a balanced look aim for a combination where the height of the decorative pot makes up approximately one third of the total height of the faux plant and pot when assembled. If you are opting for a taller style planter, up to half will look balanced.

2. Check the height: Sit your starter pot in the base of your decorative pot and check the height. Add a layer of hydrogranules underneath the starter pot to raise it up if needed.

Tip: Aim to have the rim of the starter pot about 4cm below the opening of the decorative pot. This gives room for a finishing layer of hydrogranules or decorative stones without them spilling out.

Tip: If you have a tall planter, fill any excess void in the planter with void fill that will not compress over time, e.g. polystyrene.

Tip: If displaying our weatherproof artificial plants outdoors, add some heavier ballast to the base of the planter e.g. large stones.

3. Fill it up: Sit the starter pot centrally in your decorative pot and then fill around it with suitable material to stabilise and support the plant. We recommend hydrogranules for indoor use as they are inorganic, so will not attract insects and unlike soil will not compress over time; alternatively you could use sand.

Tip: If you want to permanently secure your plant in the decorative pot, then you can use expanded foam filler before topping off with hydrogranules or pebbles.

4. Arrange: Gently pull into position any wired stems and leaves to give the faux plant its full spread and desired look and that’s it! No watering, no feeding, just position your artificial plant display and enjoy.

How to Display Trailing Artificial Plants

Our trailing artificial plants typically come bound onto a spike that holds the stems together.

Displaying these in decorative pots could not be easier. Just fill your planter with hydrogranules or sand and stick the spike into it. Then top off with your choice of finishing layer such as coloured stones, grit or more hydrogranules.

If you want extra security, you can push the spike into dry floral foam before surrounding and covering with hydrogranules or sand.
