Calathea zebrina has distinctive, ornamental leaves with bright green zebra-like stripes on a velvety dark green background. Leaf undersides are a reddish-purple colour. This eye-catching Calathea will add a bold, colourful and highly decorative element to your houseplant collection.
What you got in the pot? This plant is fussy when it comes to soil content, the soil needs to retain moisture but also have good drainage. Consider mixing two parts peat moss with two parts pearlite. Introducing coco coir will help to retain moisture.
Living on the edge! Crisping up at the edges of leaves is a watering issue not humidity. This plant is sensitive to chlorine in tap water, so allow it to stand overnight to diffuse before use, and maintain an even moist soil.
Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to remove accumulated dust. Do not use leaf shine as this will damage the foliage. Brown tips may occur.
