The ZZ Plant, or Zanzibar Gem, is an extremely popular and hip house plant. It's nonchalant care requirements make it a great choice for forgetful houseplant owners; whereas its stunning and unique foliage give it eye-catching appeal.
Zamioculcas zamiifolia has small but wide, dark green, glossy leaves that zig-zag up tall, slender stems. The plant has air purifying qualities too, removing volatile organic compounds benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene.
Please note: these plants like to be pot bound and the grow pots can often be distorted into an oval shape.
No touchy! ZZ plants love being pot-bound so be careful not to handle or separate the roots too much as this can cause stress to the plant.
Throwing shade... The ZZ plant will thrive even in shaded areas, making it an ideal desk buddy for those not so brightly-lit spaces!
The Zamioculcas zamiifolia is drought tolerant, so don't be afraid to let the soil get a little dry before watering.
Zamioculcas zamiifolia is shade tolerant and is perfectly happy in a wide range of light conditions, from low to bright. Avoid direct sunlight however, as this may scorch the plant.
Water when the soil has started to dry out. This plant is drought tolerant so do not be afraid to let it go without water for short periods in order to avoid overwatering.
The ZZ Plant does well in average to cool room temperatures, with a preferred range of 15°C to 24°C. This plant can tolerate temperatures as low as 8°C.
The Zamioculcas zamiifolia will do fine in normal household humidity. Can cope with drier conditions for short periods if required.
Apply a weak dose of a liquid fertiliser once a month during the growing season.
The ZZ Plant is a slow to moderate-grower, depending upon conditions, and typically reaches an ultimate height of around 1 metre.
