Beaucarnea recurvata was previously known as Nolina recurvata. Its common names are Pony Tail Palm and Elephant’s Foot. Although called a palm, it is fact a succulent, being a member of the Agave family.
Nolina has a very distinctive appearance, making it instantly recognisable. It has a swollen base and trunk which stores water and looks a little like the foot of an elephant, being greyish brown in colour with a wrinkled texture. Long slender leaves curve from the top of the stem like ponytails giving rise to its other common name Pony Tail Palm.
It is very slow growing, but growth can be encouraged with good light and plenty of water. In their natural Mexican environments, they can grow over 4m in height. Ultimate height for a house plants is more likely to be around 2.5m (eventually).
Despite being able to grow to such great heights, smaller Pony Tail palms look stunning as table and desk top plants. They are very easy to care for, making them ideal for almost everyone and an excellent choice for both home and office.
Beaucarnea recurvata are available either Branched or as a Single Stem option.
